Further inspiration through videos

As well as looking at trailers relevant to our genre for inspiration, we thought it important to look through YouTube at 'training' videos from films. Seeing as the majority of our trailer looks at training shots, looking at the training videos gave us a good oppurtunity to think up camera angles, mise and scene and look at what works in a scene.

Below are a couple of clips we looked at.

ROCKY

NEVER BACK DOWN

Inspiring mise en scene continued

Unfortunately i cannot post all the images in one post so here are a few more select shots we used as inspiration. Again note the warehouse settings and the costume, you will also see a lot of fighting/training in films done in a 'wife beater' vest as you will see in the previous post too. We found it fitting to dress 'Mickey' in these ways.

Inspiring mise en scene

Below are some images that acted as food for thought for us as a group. We looked at typical images from films relevant to our genre and noted costume and setting - you will see a lot of topless fighters in films which is why we decided to have a lot of our training done with a top off to give it an authentic feel, also, a lot of the filming is done in a run down location e.g. warehouse, back streets, which is where we got the inspiration for using the warehouse.

Inspiration

Here are some links to films and in particular trailers that inspired our decisions when making our trailer! We did a lot of research - looking through trailers under our chosen genre played a big part as it gave us a chance to look at a few things e.g. how much of the story they gave away, mise en scene, clothing, music etc.

The Tag line

Every film has their tag line, for me this came very quickly. I think when you have been working on a project for so long it is relatively easy to think up an effective and associable tagline. Looking at the posters in my post below we see taglines such as 'Some dreams are worth the fight'(Fighting), 'Win or lose... everyone has their fight' (Never Back Down) and 'Mischief. Mayhem. Soap' (Fight Club). For 'Caged', i thought of the tagline 'When you have nothing, what is there to lose?'

I think this is quite powerful as it represents Mickey's theory in life in one sentence and instantly, via the poster, the consumer can guess at the type of plot it will be.

Back to the start

When originally looking at the fighting genre we looked at a few films as inspiration - some of the films we looked into were 'Fighting', 'Never Back Down' and 'Fight Club'. We also looked at the posters for these films too to give us some sort of guideline when designing our product image. When looking at the films i took into account the narratives, locations, song, clothing and tried to mirror different aspects onto our production. I wanted to replicate certain things as it has previously been proved very succesful on the big screen. Below are the posters -

Finished Ancillary task - Poster

Our second Ancillary task was to create a film poster. For the poster, again, we got Alastair to take pictures on location and then we put it into Photoshop to start the editing process. We layered graffti onto it to give it a rough and streetwise feel and then i looked online and found a font to use for the name of the film and date etc. Finally i had to put on the certificate badge and a few credits. Here it is...
