OUR SONG!

To coincide with our trailer, we obviously needed a good song. When carrying out audience research, we found that the song in a trailer was vital so when making this decision we knew it had to be the right one. After much searching, we came across a song 'Reach' by an artist called Skrein. I pursued the case by messaging the artist via Myspace music and fortunately he accepted our request to use it! When looking for the song we wanted something with quite a prominent beat with quite a dance/r&b/grime feel to it to help create that underworld and corrupt feel to the trailer.

Below is the song and official video.

The beginning of filming...

After we created our synopsis, we then went out and carried some audience research to get a grasp of our target audience and what they want out of a trailer. The results of this research will be posted in due course.

After we had generated results, we went on to further developing our storyboard and starting our filming. Myself and Alex Lay travelled to the shoot location and brought with us our HD camera along with tripod and wheels for the tripod. When we arrived, we browsed around the premises looking at locations which would be very visually effective. After much thought, the shooting started with one of our actors, Louis Palmer who plays Mickey Stanton.
When filming, we made sure we paid attention to detail and kept a bucket filled with water on site in order to damp the actors body and face occasionally to create the tired and hard worked look.
Our first session of filming went very well and we got key shots including the all important establishing shots done. Now it was back to the classroom, time to digitise our work so far and start putting it into final cut express.

SYNOPSIS

The synopsis has been made!

'CAGED’ is a thrilling and fast paced action film that tells the story of one misunderstood man and his survival journey through the ranks of society. Mickey Stanton was framed 3 years ago for stabbing a man. Upon his release, people want him dead. Mickey seeks help in the form of Paddy Stringer, an ex cage-fighter. Paddy trains Mickey to defend himself in a cruel world that is turning against him. Will Mickey be able to fight for his life or will he sink? Follow his break-neck journey which rapidly fills with fast cars, beautiful women and a rock and roll lifestyle.

'CAGED'

The film name had been chosen! As a group we all decided on 'CAGED', we loved this name as it is short and snappy but conveys the message of the film, has huge relevance and i personally feel creates and sets the right tone of the film. After thinking of our narrative and general story surrounding the teaser trailer, we agreed on having a man who had been framed for a murder, put in jail and on his return people are after him, he then goes to seek help in the form of an ex-cage fighter in order to learn how to protect himself from everyone out to get him.
'CAGED' is a very relevant name as it obviously links to the idea of the cage fighter along with the idea of this man who has been wrongly framed being isolated, almost as if he is in a cage by himself, excluded from the world. Synopsis and storyboard to follow!

Further insight into our ideas

From the previous post you can gather that we (MaxAl Productions) decided on the 'teaser trailer' option along with the promotional package. Once decided, we quickly went on to thinking about the different ideas. Over the summer, i had been fuelled with an idea i really wanted to suggest to the group and take forward. A friend of mine is an ex-cage fighter and i have access to a small warehouse along with fighting apparell/equipment. I had an idea to put these into the teaser trailer and create narrative involving this cage fighter. Furthermore, i was intrigued into using this idea as a teaser trailer needs to be gripping and what better way than using a cage fighter?! Using fight scenes also has a huge advantage as you can really experiment with the different camera angles and create some interesting and unique shots.
The group were very keen on the idea and within 10 minutes of brainstorming where the ideas were flowing it was clear to us all that we wanted to carry on with this idea.
Now it was on to storyboarding, some more thinking and creating a synopsis. Also, the ever important film name!

MaxAl's New Project

This year (year 13) is my second and final year of the Media Studies A-level course, after my first AS year i have learnt many skills and improved on existing ones, now it is time for me and the rest of my team to put them into use and create a new practical project. Me, Alex Lay and Alastair Crees form a small group called 'MaxAl Productions', we worked in this group for our practical project in year 12 and due to our good group dynamics have decided to continue in the same format!
When starting our A2 year, we were given the option of many different tasks we could choose to carry out our practical work, this ranged from creating a short radio story to a video game. We decided on the 'teaser trailer' that goes along with a poster and a magazine front cover.
There were various reasons for this choice. Firstly and foremost, after our year 12 experiences we are very confident with our polished knowledge concerning how to use a camera to it's best effect, the different angles and how to use all the software. We felt that now we know how to use everything a lot smoother after our introductory year, we should put it all into the best possible use that we know we can.
